Not the most exciting landscape between Palmy and Eketahuna, but not totally boring either. To Pahiatua, rise out of Palmy from Fitzgerald St and undulate through hill suburbs to the south for some 10kms. A 300m climb, a gravel stretch and a bit of downhill hill later, about 30km to be exact, and you’re in Pahiatua. After a yummy lunch at the Bakehouse, it’s off for a cruisey second ride on to Eketahuna, kiwi country. This takes you through rural hills and farms, all sealed. It rises gradually much of the way, but is pretty gentle. I took the opportunity to break free from Wayne G for a bit and raise my average speed, just for the day.
Eketahuna is cute and friendly on a Saturday. The Inn is comfortable and accommodating and we have a lovely social dinner and a good night’s sleep.
